Lionel Messi scored his 400th La Liga goal to help Barcelona beat Eibar at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening.
It proved to be a difficult first half for Ernesto Valverde’s side as the visitors pressed Barca from the front and creating some good chances for the likes of Sergi Enrich and Joan Jordan.
Despite the equalness of the game in the opening periods, Lus Suarez excellently scored the first goal of the game midway through the first period.
Suarez combined well with Philippe Coutinho before finished well past Asier Riesgo.
Coutinho, who was preferred to Ousmane Dembele from the start had a point to prove and the Brazilian forward did just that, combing well with Suarez and Messi on countless occasions from that moment on.
Messi, who had a quiet game by his standards was not to be outdone by his Uruguayan team-mate and he gave Barca a second in the second half.
The Argentine finsished well after a decent move from the Catalan side and ensured his 400th goal in Spain’s top flight.
Messi could have made it 401 just moments later, but Riesgo did well to stop Barca’s number ten on this occasion.
Riesgo didn’t stop Suarez from adding a third though after a quickly taken throw in by Sergi Roberto.
The result keeps Barca five points clear of Atletico Madrid, who beat Levante earlier in the day, 1-0.
