Getafe began Jornada twenty with a thumping 4-0 win over Alaves, with doubles from Jaime Mata and Jorge Molina helping the Madrid side make it four games without defeat.
The hosts began brightly and went close twice in the opening ten minutes through Vitorino Antunes, both times after link up play with Jaime Mata.
After a one-two with the striker he rounded the Alaves keeper but his shot across goal was cleared to safety. Then, just a minute later, the winger’s shot was blocked by Fernando Pacheco in the away goal.
Alaves’ only really threatened once in the first half with Borja Baston having a shot at goal from the edge of the area, but he couldn’t keep it down.
Although they began to settle down, Getafe remained on top and were given the chance to open the scoring just past the half hour mark when Guillermo Maripan clattered into Sebastian Cristoforo in the box after a poor first touch, with referee Jose Munuera pointing to the spot.
Mata took charge of the penalty and stuck the ball into the top right corner of the Alaves net.
He almost added a quick fire second when a long ball gave him space in behind the defence, but his half volley was well held by Pacheco to ensure it remained 1-0 at the break.
Getafe made a fast start to the second period, taking just 37 seconds to double their lead through Jorge Molina.
Cristoforo headed the ball forward to the striker who was given time to turn and fire a rocket of a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out.
Molina got his second and Getafe’s third on 55 minutes when Mata flicked the ball round the corner to his strike partner, who made no mistake, firing into the roof of the net from close range.
The ever impressive Antunes swung in a cross from the left which Nemanja Maksimovic got on the end of, but he couldn’t direct his header on target as the home side continued to dominate.
Alaves then had Pacheco to thank for keeping the score down when he made a double save from first Angel and then Antunes on the rebound.
He would be beaten for a fourth time late on however, when Cristoforo’s free-kick was flicked into the net by Mata for his second of the game, via the help of a slight deflection.
The win keeps Getafe in sixth place but they are now just one point behind Alaves who stay in fifth, despite their heavy defeat.
