Santiago Solari’s side pushed themselves back into the La Liga title race with a 2-0 win over Sevilla.
It has been a season of ups and downs thus far for Los Blancos and it was expected that the game against Pablo Machin’s side on Saturday afternoon at the Santiago Bernabeu – would be unpredictable.
The visitors sat above Madrid before kick off and have been the main threats for the La Liga title, along with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
However, Madrid would secure all three points and move themselves to seven points off Barca, who play Leganes on Sunday evening at Camp Nou.
Dominant in possession, the home side had a total of 23 chances on goal during the game, whilst Sevilla had just four and failed to create the chances that have made them a real threat this season.
After a goal-less first half, Braziliam midfielder Casemiro sent the home crowd into celebration with a superb finish.
The lead was almost doubled shortly after through chances for Luka Modric, but the Croat didnt miss his effort in the 92nd minute when he put the icing on the cake to make it 2-0.
The win sees Madrid sit on 36 points in third place, whilst Sevilla, who will be disappointed – sit in third on 33 points.
