Moussa Wague subjected to racist chants for Barca B

Moussa Wague was subjected to racist chants during Barcelona B’s game with SD Ejea at the weekend.

The 20-year-old was sent off for Barca’s second string after striking an opponent when he had gone to get the ball from the crowd for a throw in.

The Senegalese youngster has since apologised the club and the fan, but also claimed that he was racially abused during the game.

Wague joined Barcelona from Eupen last summer and has slowly been developing for the B side, giving Ernesto Valverde cause to promote him and give him first team chances.

“I wish to explain my sincere apologies to SD Ejea and the fan of that club for my conduct during the game yesterday,” Wague wrote on an Instagram post.

“In a moment of anger, with the score line not in our favour, I behaved incorrectly and I acknowledge that and want to reiterate my apologies.

“I want to denounce also that my action, attempting to get the ball back from a fan to take a throw-in, arrived after being the object of numerous and continued racist insults and songs that should not be tolerated ever in a football stadium.”

Meanwhile, for the first team – Ousmane Dembele will miss two weeks through an injury picked up in the 3-1 win over Leganes.

The French forward sustained an ankle injury during the victory, whilst a slight issue with his knee from the same challenge – has now seem him ruled out for 10-15 days.

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde opted to heavily rotate his squad for the visit of Mauricio Pellegrino’s side and it saw Lionel Messi and Ivan Rakitic settle for a place on the bench.

The first half belonged to the home side, who relied on the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez to perform – and the former was in sensational form, creating several chances for his team-mates.

And, his reward would come for his first 45 minutes when he was played in by Jordi Alba, before tapping home past Ivan Cuellar.

The second half saw the game change slightly, however, as Martin Braithwaite got the visitors back on level terms.

Barca would now knock on the door once more and it was Messi who was the creator for their second as his superb effort was saved by Cuellar but Suarez was on hand to tap home the rebound.

The Catalan giants sealed the win when Messi and Jordi Alba combined, before the Argentine notched his 18th league goal of the season.
