Lionel Messi has penned a goodbye quote and video via his official Instagram to Neymar, who will leave the club this summer.
Weeks of reports linking the Brazilian with a move to the Ligue 1 side have surfaced and they gained rapid pace following Barca’s US tour as the forward flew to Qatar, where reports claim he met with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to discuss terms.
The 25-year-old has a €222m release clause at the Catalan club, which PSG are willing to pay, with reports claiming he has agreed personal terms and already undergone a medical, whilst in the Arab state.
Mundo Deportivo now claim that he has told his Barca team-mates of his intentions to leave the club, saying goodbye to the squad after beating Real Madrid in Miami at the weekend.
And, an official statement on Barcelona’s website said: “The player Neymar Jr, accompanied by his father and agent, has informed FC Barcelona this morning of his decision to leave the Club in a meeting held at the Club’s offices.
Faced with this position, the Club has informed them they refer to the buy-out clause of his existing contract which as of 1 July totals 222 million euros which will have to be deposited in its entirety.
Furthermore, in reply to the claim for the contract extension bonus, the Club has once again made it clear that the amount remains deposited with a notary until the case is resolved.
The player remains under contract at FC Barcelona but with temporary permission to not take part in training sessions.”
Barca officials were at first tough on their stance over his future, but in recent weeks – the club have pushed towards possible replacements in Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho and Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.
It is now expected that the former Santos man will complete his move to Paris within the next few days and be presented in front of the Eiffel Tower.
Having joined Barca in 2013, Neymar has scored 106 goals in 185 games and played an important part in two La Liga titles and one Champions League success.
