Marcelo have been given backing by Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari, despite losing his starting place in recent week.
The Brazilian defender has seen playing time hard to come by at the Santiago Bernabeu over the last few weeks, being replaced by youngster Sergio Reguilon.
Marcelo has won four Champions League and four La Liga titles during his career with Madrid, which has also seen him make 471 appearances in all competitions.
With the 30-year-old’s exemption from the first eleven, multiple reports have claimed that Italian side Juventus are keen on bringing him to the Serie A this summer and that he could be reunited with former Los Blancos forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Those links continue to be heard, leading Solari to be quizzed on his future and recent omission but he remained coy on the subject saying that ‘competition’ for places is tough.
“His (Marcelo’s) love for the club is indisputable, as his commitment, happiness, behaviour….” he told reporters.
“Then decisions are made and we have to choose, which is a difficult part of my work, each game is new and different. Between us they are treated in privacy, and there they are, it is important that everyone feels that they can play and also that they can lose the site, competition is necessary.”
The Argentine boss has been largely inconsistent with results after taking over from Julen Lopetegui following the first El Clasico of the season towards the end of last year, but a 2-0 win over Sevilla at the weekend has seen fans remain posititve.
Madrid face Girona in the Copa del Rey quarter final on Thursday, before they travel to the RCDE Stadium to play Espanyol at the weekend.
