Valverde and Barcelona duo targeted by fans after Sevilla defeat

Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat to Sevilla in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday evening has left fans unhappy with Ernesto Valverde, Philippe Coutinho and Kevin-Prince Boateng criticised.

Valverde chose to rest Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba for the visit to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – meaning new signing Boateng, Malcom and Carles Alena were handed starts.

However, it was Pablo Machin’s impressive Sevilla who stole bragging rights for the first leg.

After a fairly even but chance-less first half, the Andalusian hosts attempted to open the scoring from kick off in the second period.

Dutch winger Quincy Promes looked in particularly good form as he picked out Ben Yedder on multiple occasions.

And, he would turn provider eventually when he played a delightful cross into Sarabia, who produced a fine half volley to fire past Jasper Cillessen and into the back of the net.

Sevilla did not stop from there after to get a second and it was down to Ben Yedder, who tapped home shortly after to send the home crowd into raptures.

Barca did throw on Coutinho, Luis Suarez and Alba late on – but the trio were unable to create anything of note and the score line remained the same until the final whistle.

Following the game, Valverde, Coutinho and Boateng were all subject of unhappiness from the club’s fans, who could not understand Messi’s omission, the Brazilian’s poor performance and the decision to play the latter after just arriving at the club days earlier.
