Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed his interest in Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals.
Ruiz left Real Betis last summer for the Serie A outfit and despite finding playing time and form hard to come by at the start of the campaign – he has since pushed his way into the starting eleven in Naples.
A goal last week two weeks ago against Sassuolo and 90 minutes in the win over Lazio at the weekend has seen his fortunes change and according to Marca – officials at the club are now keen to bring in Fornals, who would play alongside the 22-year-old.
Former Malaga man Fornals currently has a €25m release clause at Villarreal, but Napoli are convinced they can negotiate a lower price.
Following on the from those reports, Napoli Ancelotti has discussed his interest with reporters: “This club is very attentive to the international market, Fornals is a player that we are following, but it is not the only one but it is one more of a list of footballers that we follow.”
The Yellow Submarine currently sit second from bottom in La Liga and links of an exit for Fornals have been ongoing since the summer when Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham showed interest from the English Premier League.
A regular for Villarreal, Fornal has featured in every league game this season, meaning his exit would leave a gap in the midfield area.
It is understood that Napoli’s interest has been met negatively by Fornals, who is keen to help his side avoid relegation.
