Sevilla will seek to make an immediate La Liga riposte on Saturday lunchtime, as Pablo Machin’s men host Levante at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Sevilla vs Levante – Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – Saturday 26th January – Kick off 12.00 midday UK time
After coming off on the losing end of last weekend’s tight encounter against Real Madrid last week, Los Rojiblancos will look to continue their good week, after taking a 2-0 Copa del Rey lead back to the Nou Camp next week.
Following a tense and fiery encounter in the Spanish capital last time out in the top flight however, a Los Blancos double from Casemiro and Luka Modric in the final 12 minutes, saw Madrid come out on top at the Bernabeu.
Machin’s men then responded in fine fashion on Wednesday evening, notching a first-leg win against a rotated Barcelona side courtesy of second half efforts from Pablo Sarabia and Wissam Ben Yedder.
The weekend’s hosts then will be seeking three points to close the gap on both Real and Atletico Madrid respectively, however they face an unpredictable and tricky opponent in Granatos.
Paco Lopez’s men arrive in Andalusia having lost all of their last three La Liga games, whilst having not won a single league game since back in December’s 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.
Levante are one of the league’s more counter-attacking outfits and with the speed of Jose Luis Morales and the goal-scoring prowess of former Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral, Sevilla will need to be on their mettle.
The hosts will also be acutely aware, that the Valencian side toppled the aforementioned and reigning UEFA Champions League winners earlier this term, in a shock 2-1 win in the capital via goals from Morales and Roger Marti.
Attack then will very much be the emphasis here, with two sides capable of attractive and intelligent play. This could be a another encounter with a rash of goals, to add to La Liga’s growing number of chaotic games we have already seen this season.
Sevilla have an almost entirely full squad to pick from this weekend, with just midfielder Maxime Gonalons (ankle) and winger Nolito (shin) long-term absentees.
After rotating his XI in midweek, Machin should restore all three of Andre Silva, Tomas Vaclik and Daniel Carrico back into the starting line-up with Quincy Promes set to drop to the bench.
Levante are without both of their defensive duo in Chema and Sergio Postigo with knee injuries, whilst midfielder Ivi Lopez is a major doubt with a knock. Coke could deputise as part of back three.
Morales is again set to play as part of a front two, with either Mayoral or Marti to partner the former.
