Real Betis play hosts to second placed Atletico Madrid on Sunday with Quique Setien’s men hoping that a shock result can propel them into the European qualifying spots.
Real Betis v Atletico Madrid – Benito Villamarin – Sunday 3 February – Kick off 3:15pm UK time
The Seville side reached the semi finals of the Copa del Rey midweek after a 4-2 aggregate win over Espanyol. They have had a poor run of form in the league however, having picked up only four points from the last 15 available. The Beticos welcomed Jesé Rodriguez and Brazilian defender Emerson to their ranks this past week and it is thought that both new arrivals will be a part of this weekend’s squad.
Sunday’s visitors to the Benito Villamarin have continued to remain undefeated in La Liga since their 2-0 defeat away to Celta Vigo on September 1st and have won their last three league games. Los Colchoneros bolstered their attacking options at the end of the transfer window, welcoming boyhood Atleti fan Alvaro Morata to the Wanda Metropolitano on an 18-month loan deal from Chelsea.
Quique Setien will definitely be without midfield duo Cristian Tello and William Carvalho for the match. Tello misses the clash with a hamstring injury and Carvalho is ruled out with a knee sprain. Junior Firpo is a doubt after recovering from his hamstring problem.
Diego Godin has joined the already injured Koke (thigh), Stefan Savic (hamstring) and Diego Costa (foot) at Atleti’s treatment table and will definitely miss Sunday’s encounter. The defender has been ruled out with a thigh problem. Filipe Luis looks to have recovered from his muscular problem but is a doubt for the weekend, as are Saul and Vitolo, who have both picked up thigh knocks.
