Celta Vigo to sack Miguel Cardoso after defeat to Real Valladolid

Celta Vigo are on the verge of sacking Miguel Cardoso after a defeat to Real Valladolid at the weekend.

Multiple reports in Spanish press claim that Cardoso is set to be relieved of his duties at the Galician club, despite only just taking over in November when Antonio Mohamed was sacked.

Portuguese coach Cardoso has managed just two wins in 10 games and it is now understood that former Malaga boss Michel and Fran Escriba are being looked at as potential replacements.

Estadio Jose Zorilla laid the ground for a drama when Valladolid took against Celta in the early Sunday kick-off in La Liga.

The match started in a good tempo, with both teams looking confident on the ball. Celta though looked most dangerous in front of goal. After 15 minutes the game, we saw the opening goal from Pione Sisto. The Danish international almost lobbed the ball into the far corner, after a big mistake by Michel.

Early on both Sisto and Sofiane Boufal looked great, but that should change as the game went on.

After half an hour Maxi Gomez almost scored on a header after a corner kick, and after that, the game changed direction.

Valladolid started creating chances, and only Ruben Blanco in the Celta-goal kept them in the game. Before half-time, Sergio Guardiola almost scored, which would have been a debut goal, after he came from Getafe only a couple of days ago.

The second half started with Valladolid continuing to put pressure on Celta, and after 55 minutes the equaliser came. Oscar Plano got the ball from a cross and scored his third goal of the season alone with Blanco.

Celta continued to struggle and Valladolid really played some good football at times. Therefore, it was only natural that the home team took the lead after 70 minutes.

Sergio Keko fired the ball into the bottom corner, without any chance for Blanco in goal. His first goal of the season.

In the last part of the game, Celta tried to put pressure on Valladolid, but could not create any big chances.

After 87 minutes Wesley Hoedt, who Celta just signed on loan from Southampton got his second yellow of the game and was sent off in his debut.

The game ended with a fully deserved victory for Valladolid, and right now, Celta looks like a team that could end up playing the Segunda division next season.
