Alvaro Morata has completed his loan move to Atletico Madrid from Premier League side Chelsea.
It was heavily reported before the winter break that Sevilla were closing on a deal to bring the former Real Madrid man to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – but a deal broke down with sporting director Joaquin Caparros saying the Spanish forward’s wage demands were too high.
That left Atletico Madrid ready to pounce, citing a need to bring in a striker after an injury to Diego Costa and the heavy reliance on Antoine Griezmann this season.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus man has found playing time hard to come by at Chelsea this season and a loan deal away from England is now complete with Atleti.
Morata joins Atleti on an 18-month loan deal from Stamford Bridge and is expected to go straight into Diego Simeone’s squad for the game against Real Betis on Sunday.
His arrival is expected to see Nikola Kalinic leave the club, having been linked with a move away – despite joining from AC Milan last summer.
Morata played for Atleti during his youth career, whilst he also had spells with Real Madrid and Italian side Juventus before moving to England.
