Atletico Madrid have set their sights on signing Dayot Upamecano as a replacment for Diego Godin.
Upamecano, who plays for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga has been impressing various clubs across Europe this season and the 20-year-old is now said to be high on Diego Simeone’s wishlist.
Simeone has been forced to look at potential replacements for Godin, who now looks likely to sign a deal with Italian side Inter Milan.
Godin, who is at the heart of the Atleti defence has been linked to a large number of clubs in recent weeks, all of which are hoping to take full advantage of his expiring contract.
Inter Milan are said to be extremely keen with multiple reports claiming talks have already taken place with the Uruguayan’s agent and Sky Sport Italia have now reported that a deal has been agreed and that a medical has taken place.
The Spanish outlet claim that a two-year deal has been agreed worth €5.5m per season and the option of a third year has also been included.
Since arriving at Atleti in 2010 from Villarreal, Godin has made 364 appearances in all competitions, helping the Madrid side to a La Liga title, two Europa League titles and a Champions League runners up medal.
