Javi Calleja has returned to Villarreal as head coach just 50 days after being sacked.
Former Getafe boss Luis Garcia took over seven weeks ago after Calleja was sacked following a drastic start to the season.
The Yellow Submarine have failed to turn around their performances though under Garcia and sit just one place off the bottom spot in La Liga.
Garcia saw results against Espanyol in the Copa del Rey and the 3-0 defeat to Valencia at the weekend go against him as directors met on Monday to discuss moving forward and ultimately decided to call time on his reign as boss at the Estadio de Ceramica.
The only victory during his seven weeks in charge came against Spartak Moscow in the Europa League on December 13.
Garcia’s sacking sees him become the second manager this season to suffer that fate at the club and has left the club’s fans and media men – contemplating their league survival chances.
COPE claimed that former boss Calleja was set to arrive back at the club he coached before December, and that was confirmed later on Tuesday evening by president Fernando Roig, seeing the coach return 50 days after being sacked.
Villarreal face Espanyol this coming weekend at home.
