Athletic Bilbao have turned their attentions from signing Fernando Llorente to Rayo Vallecano striker Sergio Moreno.
Former Spanish international Llorente was a relatively un-used substitute with Tottenham Hotspur in England and reports in Spain claimed that he could be set to return to his former club.
Linked with a return last summer, Llorente was told by former president Josu Urrutia that the option was not there to return – but presidential elections have since changed that stance and newly appointed chief Aitor Elizegi wants add Llorente’s fire power to his attack.
However, those hopes have now been put on hold after Harry Kane’s recent injury saw Llorente get more minutes.
During his time at San Mames, Llorente scored 118 goals in 333 appearances before moving on and having spells with Juventus, Sevilla and Swansea City.
Athletic have struggled this season, and they remain keen on bringing in a new attacking option in the January transfer window.
Attention has now turned to Rayo Vallecano striker Moreno, who has struggled to gain playing time in the first team this season.
The 20-year-old striker was born in Pamplona and has made just one appearance for Rayo during his two years at the club, whilst he has also appeared ten times for their B side.
