Athletic Bilbao have signed Ibai Gomez and Kenan Kodro in the January transfer window to enhance their forward options.
With presidential elections seeing a change in hierachy at the Basque club, movements have been made to return Athletic back to their glory days of being a regular Europa League side and battling with the top six sides in La Liga.
Calls for a return to the club for Ander Herrera (Manchester United), Fernando Llorente (Tottenham Hotspur) and Javi Martinez (Bayern Munich) have been made and although unrealistic at present – their capture of Ibai Gomez, who had a spell at Alaves before his return, provides a clear message to fans of future plans.
The 29-year-old right sided forward returns for a small price of €4m.
Following Ibai Gomez into Basque country is Kenan Kodro from Copenhagen; a Basque striker who plays at international level for Bosnia-Herzogovina.
Whilst the 25-year-old does not have the greatest of goalscoring records, his six goals in 18 games for his former club has the coaching staff at Athletic hoping he can provide some pivotal moments for the remainder of the season.
One exit sees Cristian Ganea leave the San Mames for a loan move to lower league side CD Numancia and the left-back is expected to be sold on come the summer.
