Atletico Madrid’s transfer dealings over the January window have proved good, having brought in Alvaro Morata on loan and selling Jonny Otto for a large fee to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Diego Simeone has some tough decisions over the next few weeks with the likes of Diego Godin, Juanfran and Filipe Luis all seeing their current contracts expiring.
But, whilst those three players are dealing with their futures off the field – Alvaro Morata has arrived to the club he supported as a child from Premier League club Chelsea.
The Spanish striker struggled for regular football at Stamford Bridge and he has now sealed an 18-month loan deal, which can be made permanent – at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Joining him and returning from a loan spell with Argentinos is Nehuen Perez, but he is unlikely to break into the first team any time soon.
Perhaps Atleti’s best move of the January market is the sale of Otto to Wolves though, having settled for a fee of €20.5m with the English side.
German keeper Axel Werner also leaves on loan to Malaga, whilst Portuguese winger Gelson Martins has ended his short stint at the club, arriving at AS Monaco on loan for the remainder of the season.
