Atletico Madrid are set to have Sime Vrsaljko return to the club after Inter Milan cut short his loan spell due to an injury.
The full-back had been impressing on loan with the Italian side but he has now suffered a knee injury which has seen him ruled out for six months of action.
Following medical tests and the news of his unavailibility – Vrsaljko is now on the verge of returning to Madrid, where he will begin his recovery.
Inter replaced the Croatian international last month with Southampton defender Cedric Soares.
Vrsaljko’s return to Atleti and recovery could be timed perfectly for boss Diego Simeone, who h sold Jonny Otto to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the transfer window and remains unsure whether or not Juanfran will leave the club this coming summer.
Juanfran is one of a number of players to have contracts expiring at the Wanda Metropolitano in June, along with Uruguayan defender Diego Godin and Brazzilian international Filipe Luis.
Atleti are currently preparing for the Madrid derby which takes place on Saturday afternoon.
The game will see second placed versus third in La Liga, whilst league leaders Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday evening to round off the weekend’s action.
