Getafe triumphed with a 3-1 against Celta Vigo in the early Saturday kick-off in Spain. It was a win that was made easier after Maxi Gomez got a stupid red card in the first half.
Celta Vigo started the game well with an early goal after just two minutes. Brais Mendez took a free-kick and it was Nestor Araujo who jumped highest and scored a header.
Celta continued to play well, and Getafe did not look solid defensively like they usually do. But in the last 10 minutes of the half, the game completely turned around.
First Maxi Gomez was send off after two yellow cards right after each other for complaining to the referee. Two minutes later, Getafe were given a penalty and Jaime Mata scored from the spot.
The second half started slow, but just after the hour mark, Getafe took the lead and who else than Jorge Molina?
The Spaniard scored an easy goal on Ruben Blanco after some really good build-up play from Getafe, and the game looked closed. However, Iago Aspas made his comeback after an injury just after, which gave Celta confidence.
Celta had a lot of big chances and should at least have scored one goal to equalise the game. But like many times before this season, they could not get the ball over the line. And like many times before this season, they instead conceded in the other end.
Ruben Blanco made one of the biggest mistakes of the season when he failed a pass and delivered the ball to Mata who scored his second in an open goal and closed the game.
With the win Getafe after breathing into Sevilla’s neck on the 4th place in La Liga while Celta Vigo is struggling in the bottom half of the league. Before the season most would probably think that it would be the other way around.
