Gareth Bale could receive three-game ban for celebration

La Liga have called for the Spanish Football Federation to hand Gareth Bale a ban for a ‘provocative gesture’ he made during the win over Atletico Madrid last weekend.

The Welsh winger scored Los Blancos’ third goal during the Madrid derby and proceeded to make a hand gesture towards the home support of Atleti in the 74th minute.

Bale is said to have raisd his arm and hit it with his other hand, a gesture which is considered offensive in Spain.

La Liga is currently actively trying to cut down the number of offensive goal celebrations, working with the RFEF Competition Committee, who have the ultimate decision on bans for players.

A gesture made with intent to entice fans of the opposite team could be met with a ban of four to 12 games, whilst a ban of three games is for a gesture which does not cause a problem.

Aswell as Bale facing a ban, captain Sergio Ramos is also in trouble after claims he got himself ‘intentionally’ booked against Ajax in the Champions League in midweek.

The Spanish international was booked in the 89th minute of Madrid’s 2-1 win over Ajax, meaning he will now miss the second leg and see his disciplinary slate wiped clean.
