Eibar 2-2 Getafe: Hosts come from behind to earn a draw

Eibar came from two goals down to earn a share of the spoils against Getafe in a 2-2 draw at Ipurua on Friday night.

A Charles Dias double saw the hosts peg back the side from the capital, who had opened up a lead thanks to goals from Jaime Mata and Dimitri Foulquier.

The home side had the first chance of the game after 12 minutes when Sergi Enrich and Charles combined for the latter to get a shot on goal, but his effort was tame and straight at David Soria.

It was Getafe that took the lead eight minutes before half time however, with Mathias Olivera rolling the ball through to Mata who kept his cool to dink the ball over Asier Riesgo into the net.

Eibar came close to making it 1-1 before half time when Ruben Peña’s cross found its way to the back post and Enrich, but the striker’s shot from a tight angle went back across goal and the chance was gone.

Seven minutes into the second period, Getafe doubled their lead. The ball broke to Foulquier on the edge of the box and the Frenchman was able to bend it into the bottom corner from 18 yards out.

With 66 minutes on the clock, Eibar were handed a lifeline thanks to VAR, with replays showing that Dakonam Djene had handballed a cross from José Angel in the box to earn Los Armeros a spot kick.

Charles stepped up and coolly sent Soria the wrong way from twelve yards.

Chances were at a premium but the next one resulted in the game’s fourth goal as Eibar levelled the score.

The goal was one that Leandro Cabrera won’t want to see again however, with the defender attempting to head the ball back to his goalkeeper, unaware that Charles was lurking and the striker took full advantage, getting to the ball to flick it past Soria.

Eibar did their best to turn one point into three late on but couldn’t find a way past Soria for a third time with the two sides having to settle for a point that keeps them in tenth and fifth respectively.
