Valencia set to complete permanent Cheryshev deal

Valencia are close to agreeing a permanent move for winger Denis Cheryshev, according to reports.

The Russian international is currently on loan at the Mestalla from La Liga rivals Villarreal but it is now understood that he is closing in on a permanent deal.

Having arrived in the summer on loan, Cheryshev netted four goals in his 28 games this term and Spanish daily Marca have reported that negotiations have advanced to a final stage.

Valencia failed to make their most of their dominance against Espanyol on Sunday, being held 0-0 by the visitors.

Marcelino’s side have drastically improved this side of the winter break and put in a special performance against Barcelona two weeks prior – but their will be ruing a lack of finishing in their post-match team briefing after this one.

Espanyol arrived having struggled for form, despite starting the season off in good spirits and they did have their lions share of the football – producing more passes than the home side over 90 minutes.

Kevin Gameiro and Ruben Sobrino partnered each other up front but both were unusually guilty of mis-firing as Los Che could have gone into the break leading.

The second half was more of the same as Valencia looked to go ahead but Ezequiel Garay squandered a close range header, which really he should have scored.

But the best chance of the game came when captain Dani Parejo was played in by Daniel Wass – only to send his effort from five yards straight at Espanyol keeper Diego Lopez.

The result leaves Valencia frustrated but in eighth place, whilst the visitors return to Barcelona having picked up a point and sitting in 13th.
