La Liga sides discover their Europa League opponents

Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal found out their UEFA Europa League opponents, when the draw for the round of 16 was made in Nyon on Friday morning.

Five times winners Sevilla were drawn against Slavia Prague, following their 3-0 aggregate win against Lazio in the previous round.

The La Liga side are at home in the first on March 7th before travelling to the Czech Republic a week later.

After their 3-0 victory over Celtic, Marcelino’s Valencia were drawn against Krasnodar, a team who defeated Sevilla in the group stages.

The Spaniards will be big favourites to progress but know it won’t be easy, especially given their poor league form.

Like Sevilla, Los Che will be at home in the first leg.

It is Villarreal however that face the toughest task of the La Liga sides, having been drawn against Russian Premier League leaders Zenit St Petersburg.

Both sides sneaked through in the last round, the Yellow Submarine edging past Sporting Club 2-1 on aggregate while Zenit overturned a first leg deficit to beat Fenerbahce 3-2 on aggregate.

They face a trip to Russia for the first leg on March 7th, before welcoming Zenit to the Estadio de la Ceramica for the second leg.

Elsewhere, what is arguably the tie of the round sees Eintracht Frankfurt take on Inter Milan.

The Germans won all six games in a tough group containing Lazio, Marseille and Apollon Limassol before dispatching Shakhtar Donetsk in the round of 32. Inter were comfortable victors against Rapid Vienna in the last round.

Real Betis’ conquerors Rennes, will face Arsenal while Chelsea take on Dynamo Kyiv.
