On Friday night – Espanyol and Huesca played out a 1-1 draw at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona.
Esteban Granero’s expertly taken free kick gave the home side the lead after 20 minutes but the bottom placed league side have improved of late and they showed their fight as they levelled through Xabier Etxeita.
On Saturday, Getafe beat Rayo Vallecano on Saturday afternoon to move into the Champions League places.
Jose Bordalas’ side are one of the most in-form sides in La Liga at present and their league standing following this victory shows just that.
The hosts welcomed Rayo, whose results of late have been indifferent, although improved – and they posed a threat to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez outfit.
It was Getafe who did take the lead though as veteran striker Jorge Molina continued to grab the headlines and strike just before the half hour mark.
Down the other end Raul de Tomas was not wanted to be kept off the scoresheet and the former Real Madrid tried and tried before eventually just before the hour mark – he levelled the game for the away side.
His goal though was cancelled out just ten minutes later when Molina’s striker partner Jaime Mata struck to send the home side into raptures.
