Athletic Bilbao 1-0 Eibar: Raul Garcia’s 1st minute goal enough for hosts

Athletic Bilbao continued their good form by beating Eibar 1-0 on Saturday evening at San Mames.

Both Athletic Club and Eibar have been in good form of late and sat mid-table in the La Liga standings and that continued after the result but saw them swap places.

Raul Garcia scored the opening goal of the game and it proved to be the only one – netting inside the first minute.

The home side continued to press from that moment on and Benat came close moments later, hitting a delightful effort using the outside of his boot which clipped the crossbar.

Inaki Williams was causing problems throughout but the Basque club failed to extend their lead and they were nearly made to pay in the second half as Marc Cucurella came close in the second half – narrowly sending a low effort just wide of the Athletic goal.

The result stayed 1-0 until the final whistle and ensured that Athletic moved to 10th, whilst Eibar dropped to 11th.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Barcelona proved too strong for Sevilla – beating them 4-2 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan thanks to a sublime Lionel Messi hat-trick and one for Luis Suarez.
