Eusebio heaps praise on Girona’s goal hero Stuani

Girona boss Eusebio has heaped praise on Cristhian Stuani, who bagged a brace against Rayo on Friday evening.

With the home side sitting in the bottom three, it was a must that they got something out of this game against Catalan side Girona, but they failed to take advantage of their slight dominance in possession.

Performances have improved of late for the home side but just three shots on target from their nine saw the likes of Raul de Tomas struggle to open the scoring.

Uruguayan striker Stuani seems to have no problem scoring for the away side and he opened the scoring dead on the half hour mark.

The home side struggled from that moment on and their misery was further compounded when battling defender Abdoulaye Ba was sent off on the hour mark.

Girona then looked to kill off the game, but wasn’t until the 85th minute that they did so when Pere Pons found Stuani, who duelly obliged and finished off his second of the game to seal three points.

Following the game, Eusebio discussed his striker’s current form, before touching on the win.

“Having Stuani is a luxury that we have to take advantage of”, said the Girona coach to reporters, “he is an example for others, it is decisive, he has a great facility for the auction but you have to value everything he does, which is a lot.

“He helps us in construction, in the back game, giving assists, with commitment in defensive work … and when they do not enter he continues to work with a good mentality, “said the La Seca coach, who added that” in the moments important, his pulse does not tremble.

“We have won a difficult game, we had to do a great job to achieve the result and apply values such as effort, commitment and concentration.”

The results sees Girona move up to 13th in the table, whilst Rayo sit second from bottom and will need to bounce back next week, having lost their last four games in La Liga.
