An astonishing 40 million people tuned in to watch Wu Lei play for Espanyol at the weekend, according to a report.
Marca follow up TV figures in the Far East that report the huge amount of watchers in China, whilst further reports claim only 177k people watched the game in Spain.
The home side’s results have been fairly hit and miss but they produced a solid performance against travelling Valladolid to keep themselves mid-table and away from the bottom pack of clubs cast in the relegation battle.
They started the game instantly on the attack and Oscar Melendo found deadly striker Borja Iglesias, who finished well to continue his good debut season for the Catalan side.
Valladolid who had gone 381 minutes without scoring a La Liga goal – levelled the tie in the 17th minute when Ruben Alcaraz was on hand.
However, the away side failed to capitlize on that moment of good play and Mario Hermoso’s goal just ten minutes into the second half seemed to knock the wind out of their sails.
The win for Espanyol was glossed over by a goal from the much hyped Wu Lei, who was played in by Sergi Darder on the 65th minute.
Espanyol now sit 11th in the La Liga table, whilst Valladolid will be looking over their shoulders as the bottom pack of clubs all look to steer clear of the relegation places.
