Celta Vigo have sacked Miguel Cardoso and replaced him with former Villarreal boss Fran Escriba.
Sergi Enrich scored a late tap in to seal all three points for Eibar and seal Cardoso’s fate as his Celta side looked rusty and lethargic.
In truth this game had more riding on it for Miguel Cardoso and Celta, who are living dangerously close to the relegation places in La Liga.
Defeats for both Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal in 19th and 18th place, respectively – gave the visitors an extra reason to push for all important three points in this one but they came up against a resilient Eibar side, who are now thinking of a Europa League challenge.
Celta were once again without injured Iago Aspas and it was all to clear to see as they had no real leaders on the pitch, allowing Eibar to create and play with some ease.
For all of the dominance with the ball, however, the home side failed to break the deadlock and with time running out – it looked like the visitors had gained an unwanted but potentially important point.
But, when you have Sergi Enrich in your side, think again…….. The Spanish striker has been in good form this term and he scored a late winner thanks to good work from Marc Cardona to seal all three points and condemn Celta to a 13th defeat of the season.
Escriba will now take over for the remainder of the season and begin with the fixture against Real Betis this coming weekend.
