Real Madrid boss Santi Solari has said his side are ready to face Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and progress.
Los Blancos face the Dutch side after a week of back-to-back El Clasico defeats and tonight’s game will be season defining as they only have the European title left to play for, realistically.
A number of question marks have now arose about Solari and some of the more senior players at the club, including Gareth Bale, who has faced a lot of criticism from Spanish media and the club’s fans.
Sergio Ramos is absent for the game after picking up a two-match ban from UEFA, meaning it will be over to the likes of Karim Benzema and Luka Modric to lead Madrid on to the quarter final stage.
Leading 2-1 after a win in the first leg, Madrid have the advantage but given their poor home form of late, Ajax are confident they can spring a surprise on Spanish soil.
Prior to the match, Solari has been busy meeting press and he believes that his side are fully focused on the tie.
“We have to continue competing until the end in LaLiga. We now have the Champions League and we have to go through the tie against Ajax, ” he told reporters.
“We want to win and progress to the next round. The team has a lot of character and I’m very proud of them. Tomorrow it’s the Champions League and we’ll be there.
“The team is very strong. The players have a lot of character and they are calm with their conscience because they gave everything, gave the maximum effort and did a good job. We aren’t happy when we don’t win. Tomorrow we have another game. We’re ready because the team is used to competing for important things.”
