Eibar boss Jose Luis Mendilibar has said he is looking forward to facing Alaves, whom he says can adapt their football to face anyone.
Alaves will host Eibar on Saturday looking to move ahead of Getafe as the race for the fourth Champions League place hots up in La Liga.
Abelardo’s side have been in superb form this season, despite a slight blip at the turn of 2019 and they are battling out with Getafe at present for fourth place, sitting three points ahead of their nearest rivals Sevilla, who sit sixth.
A win for Alaves on Saturday will see them move one point ahead of Jose Bordalas’ side, however, they will play bottom side Huesca later in the evening.
In truth, the visitors have slightly better form than Alaves, having lost just one game in their last five, picking up two wins and three draws in the process and that form was highlighted with an excellent 1-0 win over Celta Vigo last week thanks to a late goal from Sergi Enrich.
Alaves have not lost in their last four games and beat struggling Villarreal last weekend 2-1 to push themselves back in contention for the fourth spot.
A win for the home side would undoubtedly signal their intentions, whilst Eibar could also make a case for a European place if they pick up three points on the road.
Speaking ahead of the game, Mendilibar told reporters: “Tomorrow we are going to play a game that is going to be difficult, they compete well, they are good and they have played the whole season like this. They also know that we are well and we are going to compete.
“Alavés are a strong and competitive team. They can adapt to all forms of football.”
