Alaves failed to put pressure on fourth placed Getafe after being held by Eibar at home on Saturday afternoon.
Abelardo’s side have been superb this season, but results of late have been indifferent and they failed to leapfrog Getafe after being held by a resilient Eibar.
The visitors had the better of the chances and in truth, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side dominated in possession, creating a total of 20 chances during the 90 minutes, compared to Alaves’ 16.
Whilst they did have the majority of the chances, Eibar only had three on target and they were made to pay for their lack of efficiency in front of goal after Takashi Inui opened the scoring just before the hour mark.
The Japanese midfielder has found form at his new club, scoring twice in his last two games, but his goal did not prove to be the winner as Eibar hit back.
Marc Cardona popped up with twenty minutes remaining and from that moment on, it was a case of hold on to a point for both sides.
The draw means Alaves remain behind Getafe by one point, whilst Eibar sit tenth and have a real chance of getting into the Europa League this season.
