Luis Suarez has been ruled out for two weeks following Barcelona’s win over Real Betis on Sunday evening.
The Barca frontman was taken off the final minutes during his side’s 4-1 win at the Benito Villamarin after turning his ankle and it has now been confirmed by club doctors that he will miss two weeks of action.
That means that Suarez will miss Uruguay’s friendly with Uzbekistan, opting to remain in Barcelona to rest and recover, but will return in time to face English side Manchester United in the Champions League on April 10.
Sunday evening’s win over Betis saw Suarez score his side’s third, whilst Lionel Messi netted a superb hat-trick to send the Catalan side 10 points clear at the top of La Liga.
Barca’s lead at the top of La Liga now sees them in pole position to retain the league title after defeat for Atletico Madrid, who lost 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao.
Real Madrid, who sit in third – picked up a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in what was Zinedine Zidane’s first game back in charge following the removal of Santi Solari as boss, who saw Los Blancos exit the Champions League, the Copa del Rey and the La Liga title race.
