Monaco have agreed a deal to bring Gelson Martins to the club on a permanent deal this summer from Atletico Madrid.
Martins only joined La Liga giants Atleti last summer in a move from Sporting Lisbon but he failed to make a name for himself in the Spanish capital and was forced out on loan by boss Diego Simeone in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old made over 125 first-team appearances for Sporting before moving to the Wanda Metropolitano and his arrival at the Stade Louis II stadium has given him a fresh start to re-find his form.
L’Equipe claim on Wednesday morning that a deal worth €30m has been verbally agreed between the Ligue 1 side and Atleti.
Martins’ move to Atleti last summer was met with huge controversy after it was claimed to be a free transfer, however, Sporting later claimed the Spanish club owed them €45m, a claim which is on the verge of going to court.
Since arriving at struggling Monaco, Martins has netted three goals in eight games for his new club.
Another players set to leave Atleti is Lucas Hernandez after Bayern Munich confirmed that the defender would be joining them in the summer after successful negotiations.
