Iago Aspas made a triumphant return to action for Celta Vigo, helping them come from 2-0 down to beat Villarreal on Saturday.
These two sides should be battling it out for European qualification given their recent history but this season, both have struggled and it was indeed – a relegation battle.
Visiting side Villarreal have been fairly better of late in the league and they started this game in good form, netting after 11 minutes through Karl Toko Ekambi.
With the home side on the back foot, they would soon see themselves 2-0 down just four minutes after Ekambi’s opener as Alfonso Pedraza scored to silence the Balaidos crowd.
The visitors looked in complete control and even when Iago Aspas got a goal back for the hosts through a tremedous free kick – Villarreal still looked like they were going to go and seal all three points.
However, when Aspas, who made his return from injury – is in form, he really is one of La Liga’s top performers and he played a part in strike partner Maxi Gomez’ leveller on the 71st minute mark.
The Yellow Submarine looked shell shocked and just when they thought they had at least grabbed a point – Aspas profited from some clumsy defending and scored the winner from the penalty spot.
The win for Celta moves them to one point off safety, whilst Villarreal are that team just one place above safety on 29 points.
