Dani Parejo scored the only goal of the game as Valencia beat Sevilla on Sunday afternoon at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Rewind back to before the winter break and the lead Sevilla had over Los Che in the league table was so big that you would not have thought Marcelino’s side would be able to catch them, but that is not the case.
Valencia have completely turned their season around and with the win over Sevilla, they now sit sixth and look capable of taking fourth place from Getafe.
The game on Sunday was largely dominated by the home side but their failure to take advantage of any of their 17 shots on goal proved defining as Parejo took full advantage from the penalty spot just moments before the half time break.
The win for the visitors ensured that they are now in pole position to grab the final Champions League spot, whilst Sevilla dropped down to seventh and will need to quickly bounce back if they are to get into Europe.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Rayo Vallecano held Real Betis at Vallecas, whilst Levante and Eibar played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
