Juventus are moving forward with their plans to bring Raphael Varane from Real Madrid to the club this summer.
The French centre-back has been a regular figure in the back line for Madrid this season but constant reports of a squad overhaul and interest from other clubs have led to the likely outcome that he will move on this summer.
Juve, who signed Cristiano Ronaldo last summer from Los Blancos continue to look at other Madrid players they could potentially bring in and whilst a deal is being negotiated for Brazilian full-back Marcelo – it is now understood by Diario Sport and L’Equipe that Varane is also a target.
Officials at the Italian club believe that Madrid’s signing of Porto defender Eder Militao this summer will see Varane drop to the bench and suffer from a lack of playing time.
La Sexta’s El Chiringuito TV in Spain, Jose Luis Sanchez reported over the weekend that Madrid had been informed of Varane’s decision that he wants to quit the club in June.
Varane does have three years remaining on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu and a release clause of €500m, making a move seem hard to negotiate but with Zinedine Zidane returning to turn things around in the Spanish capital – players are likely to be sold and Juve believe the centre-back could one of those.
Whilst Varane is linked with an exit, Madrid have been linked at moves for Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba, with the latter reportedly saying he wants to move to the club.
