Real Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Leganes on Monday evening at Butarque.
Heading into this tie, Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane knew his side could move closer to second placed Atletico Madrid but they struggled to beat a resilient Leganes, who kept themselves in with a European chance.
The home side looked good from the off, despite dominance in possession and they had the first chance of the game as Martin Braithwaite came close.
Marco Asensio was also looking to grab his start in a Los Blancos shirt with all hands but he squandered a glorious chance in the early goings.
Despite the away side’s dominance, Leganes did take the lead as Braithwaite showed his talent once more, before finding Jonathan Silva, who lashed home a wicked left foot strike past Keylor Navas.
Madrid reacted but it was not until the second half that they got themselves back on level terms.
Karim Benzema has been in superb form of late and seems to be relishing life under Zidane once more and it was he who scored the leveller and his 18th league goal of the season.
Youssef En-Nesyri did have the ball in the net late on but the goal was ruled offside and the game played out to a 1-1 draw.
