Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias is closing in on his €28m move to La Liga rivals Real Betis, according to various reports.
The Spanish goalscorer has been pictured in Seville ahead of completing a medical and a move to the Benito Villamarin stadium, where he is set to become the second highest transfer in the club’s history behind Denilson, who joined in 1997 for a then – world record fee.
Iglesias, joined Espanyol last summer in a €10m deal from Celta Vigo and found the back of the net 20 times for the Catalan side in 43 appearances.
Multiple reports across Spain, including one in ABC de Sevilla claimed that Iglesias was ready to join Betis, having rejected a number of advances from Premier League clubs in England.
The former Celta man will link up with former Espanyol coach Rubi, who also switched clubs this summer.
Espanyol have so far this summer, sold big, allowing the likes of Iglesias, Mario Hermoso and Aaron Martin to leave the club, whilst they have signed Matias Vargas from Velez Sarsfield and Fernando Calero from Real Valladolid.
Whether or not they will now look to replace Iglesias remains to be seen, but their options up front are now incredibly slim with Javi Puado, Facunda Ferrerya and Lei Wu as the only recognisable strikers.
