Real Sociedad hd Portu to thank for his double on Sunday evening as they held off Granada to go level at the top of the La Liga standings.
Heading into the game, Granada were themselves looking to go top after a superb start on their return to Spain’s top flight, whilst La Real have also been in good form.
Portu, who has been growing into his role with the Basque club since his move from Girona in the summer – struck first on the 21st minute.
However, that strike was cancelled out by a superb individual strike from Alvaro Vadillo.
With the game heading for a draw, La Real pushed towards the end against a resilient Granada defence but that defence was cracked with just one minute remaining as Portu scored his second and ensured the victory.
Sunday began with Real Valladolid beating Mallorca 3-0 thanks to goals from Joaquin Ferendez Moreno, Sandro Ramirez and Enes Unal.
Villarreal dominated their game with Athletic Bilbao but they failed to find the back of their net as both sides played out a 0-0 draw.
Down in Pamplona, Osasuna and Alaves had a six goal thriller which saw three spot kicks.
The home side went 2-0 ahead thanks to Ruben Garcia and Ezequeil Avila, but Victor Laguardia scored for the visitors.
Roberto Torres profited from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time to extend the hosts lead, but Lucas Perez continued his scoring form to further the drama at El Sadar.
Four minutes later though, Juan Villar scored a penalty of his own and put the game to bed.
Elsewhere, Eibar beat bottom side Leganes 2-1, whilst Getafe ensured Celta Vigo’s troubles continued with a 1-0 win.
