Fran Escriba has been sacked as Celta Vigo boss after Sunday’s defeat to Getafe at the Balaidos, it has been confirmed by the club.
The Galician side have struggled so far this season and now sit in the relegation zone following Kenedy’s sole goal for the visitors on Sunday afternoon.
Celta, who have lost each of their last four games, have struggled to score goals – netting just once in those four fixtures and six goals in all competitions this season in total.
With those aforementioned results and further concerns over the team’s performance, the Celta board have acted to change things and not risk a repeat of last season when they were involved in a relegation battle.
A statement issued by the club on Sunday evening thanks Escriba for his efforts and his guidance in keeping them in Spain’s top flight last season.
A number of recognisable coaches have already been linked to the club, including former Watford boss Javi Gracia, former Betis man Quique Setien and Abelardo.
Should it be one of those or someone else, their opening task as Celta boss will be a visit to the Camp Nou next weekend to face Ernesto Valverde’s league leaders, Barcelona.
