With less than two weeks before the Montilivi hosts its first ever La Liga match, Girona FC are hard at work putting together a squad for their season opener against Atlético de Madrid.
According to reports in Marca, sporting director Quique Cárcel is aiming to land at least four more targets in what promises to be a big week for the club.
Girona’s recruitment drive shows no signs of slowing down. The Catalans have added ten players to their squad already, notably centre forward Christian Stuani from relegated Middlesbrough.
They have also secured the services of a number of young players on loan from affiliate Manchester City, including right back Pablo Maffeo and forward Marlos Moreno. But having won just one match all pre-season, manager Pablo Machín has seen the need for further reinforcements.
Stoke City’s Marc Muniesa is said to be high on the list. His Catalan origins would make him a natural fit at the club. Though with two years to run on his contract, he could prove a difficult acquisition for the Segunda División runners up.
The Catalans are also said to be interested in bringing two left-sided fullbacks to the club, with Osasuna’s Carlos Clerc reported to be a priority.
They also reportedly want to make permanent the signing of Rayo Vallecano’s Johan Mojica. The Colombian caught the eye after joining the club on loan this January.
