Is Ronaldo’s five-match ban harsh?

Is Ronaldo’s five-match ban harsh?

After a crazy supercup clash at Camp Nou that saw everything goals, yellow cards at a plenty and one red I will be discussing was that red card for a certain someone harsh.

We all know who that someone is of course Cristiano Ronaldo receiving his marching orders for a second yellow card for diving some minutes after scoring a sensational strike that left mouth opens and rocked the whole of Barcelona.

A flex of his body in front of 90,000 spectators saw the Portuguese earn his first yellow but then after seemingly being awarded a penalty after a tangle with Frenchman Samuel Umitti he was adjudged of diving and saw his marching orders.

This was Ronaldo’s 10th red card of his career but this one the maddest of the lot after pushing referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea in the back after his protests were waved away.

Monday saw the La Liga disciplinary committee meet and they ruled that the Ballond’Or holder would be suspended for five games pending an appeal they are Barcelona in the second leg of the Supercup on Wednesday,Deportivo,Valencia,Levante and Real Sociedad.

The letter of the law is you cannot touch an official so this ban is exactly right in all fairness but the former Manchester United winger can count his blessings as he could have been hit with an even worse ban up to 12 games.

To push anybody and raise your hands on a football pitch is just madness and the 32 year old with his experience should have known better .

However with the second yellow card being the incorrect decision you can understand his frustration ,without the frontman Real Madrid struggle so Barcelona and other La Liga top dogs Atletico Madrid and Sevilla will be laughing themselves to sleep.

Ronaldo said on Monday evening “Life is very unfair. Suarez dives and gets his penalty, but I dive and get a Red card. Barcelona’s cheating will never stop.”

Zidane didn’t start the Portuguese superstar at Camp Nou due to a lack of match fitness only playing a five minute cameo in the European super cup win against Manchester United in Macedonia.

With Ronaldo’s suspension this allows Isco to start on the right side of midfield and he has impressed the fans of the Galacticos of late.

It also means Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema have to step up their games as they went through a baron spell during the pre season preparation’s on the tour of the USA. Bale had several chances of note in the first competitive El Clasico of the season as he headed a Dani Carvajal cross just over on the stroke of the interval.
