With his time in London with Arsenal clearly coming to an end, Real Betis have entered themselves into the race for Lucas Perez.
The now 28 year old, former Deportivo striker has effectively been frozen out at Arsenal and openly revealed his disappointment with his squad number (9) being given to new arrival Lacazette.
In his final season in Spain with Deportivo, Perez scored 17 goals and provided a further eight assists for his teammates. Justifying Arsenal spending a reported €20 million on the striker.
Things have not gone according to plan for either Arsenal or Lucas Perez since however and the Spaniard is seeking a move away.
Naturally, the return to Deportivo was mentioned, with the Galician club reportedly ready to offer their former star man a 10 year contract in order to entice him back. They have struggled in their negotiation with Arsenal thus far however, and other clubs including Real Betis are ready to pounce.
According to Estadio Deportivo, Arsenal are demanding a full return on their investment whereas Depor are only willing to part with €12 million.
With Real Betis having allowed German Pezzella to join Italian club Fiorentina as a replacement for Kalanic on loan, with an option to buy after one year, they are hopeful they could strike up a similar deal with Arsenal for want-away striker Perez.
As things stand, Arsenal only want to sell Perez on a permanent basis. Should Real Betis capture Perez, it would make it their unprecedented 11th signing of the summer. Not to mention a new manager coming into the club. Certainly exciting times for Betis supporters.
