Serie A side Juventus have called off their interest in Valencia defender Ezequiel Garay and will now look to sign Arsenal defender Skhodran Mustafi, say reports.
The Argentine defender arrived at the Mestalla last summer from Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg and made 26 appearances, however, despite impressing – the Spanish club have indicated he is available for transfer.
Officials at Valencia agreed to put the 30-year-old and Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo on the transfer market as they look to recoup funds and sign other targets.
Cancelo, joined up with Inter Milan on Tuesday and signed a one-year loan deal, whilst Garay’s future has been less than clear.
Interest from Juventus has been rife in Spanish and Italian media as the Italian champions look to replace Leonardo Bonucci, who joined AC Milan.
Bonucci’s departure has left Juve without a solid partner for Giorgio Chiellini but it is now understood that have told Valencia they will not continue with their interest in Garay.
Instead, it is understood Valencia bosses would prefer a move for Arsenal’s Mustafi, who left Valencia last summer.
Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta is quoted by media in Spain as saying Garay is a ‘great player’ but ‘one who doesn’t fit our profile.’
Russian side Spartak Moscow have been linked and it is understood they could now make a solid move.
