Barcelona have ended their pursuit of Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri, according to various reports in Catalan media.
Barca’s summer recruitment thus far has been fairly minimal with the arrivals of defensive duo Marlon and Nelson Semedo; midfielder Paulinho and former La Masia graduate Gerard Deulofeu.
New boss Ernesto Valverde has found himself under early pressure too after a Spanish Supercup hammering at the hands of Real Madrid and the former Athletic Club coach has looked to the transfer market for new ideas.
Linked with moves for Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho; it was understood that progress in a move for Nice midfielder Seri was coming to an end.
However, Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo have now reported that despite a deal being complete – Barca officials have pulled the plug, stating that ‘sporting reasons’ have changed their opinion on bringing the Ivorian to the club.
The midfielder has remained calm on the talk, telling reporters on Tuesday briefly ‘I have not played my last game for Nice’.
The 26-year-old began his career Africa Sports, before moving to ASEC Minamos and then Porto in 2012. He would play for the Portuguese club’s B team before a short spell with Paco de Ferreira led him to France.
