Gil to miss Levante game but hope remains for Bakkali

Carles Gil has been ruled out of Deportivo La Coruna’s away game against Levante on Saturday evening but Belgian winger, Zakaria Bakkali remains hopeful of a return to the side.

Gil, who is on loan from Aston Villa, has had a groin injury since July and although he has returned to light training this weekends game will come too soon for him.

Bakkali picked up an Achilles problem in the game at the weekend against Real Madrid but it doesn’t appear to be too serious and he will train again on Friday before the clubs medical staff will make a decision on his availability for Saturday’s match.

Deportivo will train once more before the game against Levante and they will be eager to get a positive result after suffering a heavy but probably expected defeat against Real Madrid in the opening weekend of the La Liga season.

Pepe Mel will undoubtedly see this game as one where his side have a better chance of picking up their first points of the season than they did against Real but Levante will be no pushovers and Juan Muniz’s team will be full of confidence after an opening day win over local rivals, Villarreal.

Bakkali’s status could have a big impact on Depor’s chances on Saturday as he is one of their most dangerous players so for Mel’s sake and that of his team they will be praying that the Belgian is able to take the trip to Valencia.
