Athletic Bilbao have joined Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the Europa League group stages after beating Panathinaikos on Thursday evening.
The Basques staged a stunning 3-2 comeback in Greece last week meaning that their opponents needed needed to win on aggregate or a secure 4-4 draw to get into the next round.
It proved to tough a task for the visitors as a single goal from Iker Muniain secured Kuko Ziganda’s side a place in the group stages of the Europa League.
Athletic Bilbao will join La Liga duo Villarreal and Real Sociedad in the group stage draw which takes place on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, in the Champions League – all four of Spain’s teams were handed fairly tough groups, with Barcelona alongside Juventus, Real Madrid matched with Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid with Chelsea and Sevilla with Liverpool.
