New Barcelona signing Paulinho has hit out at his criticism received before playing a single game for his new club.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder sensationally joined Barca in a €40m last week but arrival in the Catalan capital has come under a wave of negative criticism from fans of the club, media men and former coaches and players.
The Brazilian has most recently been playing in the Chinese Super League with Guanghaou Evergrande and it is of the impression that he will not add anything different to Barcelona’s current midfield options, which include Arda Turan, Denis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Andre Gomes, Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Rafinha.
The 28-year-old is fully aware of the negative media and his back in a positive manner, saying he is ready to prove them wrong.
“The only thing I can do is play well and to change people’s opinion of me,” Paulinho told an interview with Diario Sport.
“The only way I can respond is to help my teammates on the pitch, achieving victories and titles – I have to be mature and not let criticism damage me.
“An understanding with Messi? I have to look at how he plays and try to adapt my game to suit him because he can become the best player in the world again and help propel us to titles.”
Paulinho scored 10 goals in 67 games for Spurs during his two year spell but his biggest successes came with Evergrande, helping them win five trophies.
