Athletic Club looking for win away to Eibar

Athletic Club head to Eibar looking to improve on a dissapointing draw at home to Getafe last weekend

Los Leones had a goal ruled out in a scoreless draw at the San Mames, but after qualifying for the Europa group stages with a win against Panathinaikos, Ziganda will be hopeful his side pick up where they left off on Thursday.

Eibar started their season with a fantastic 1-0 win away to Malaga and will not roll over for their Basque rivals in Ipurua. Jose Luis Mendilibar, will have to deal with some key absences, with Fran Rico, Pedro Leon and Anaitz Arbilla set to miss the game. Athletic club will be without Oscar De Marcos after his injury against Getafe.

The Basque derby has been a game of twists and turns in its recent history. Athletic club has won the last four meetings against their rivals, but, derbies rarely play along to recent history and Ziganda acknowledged this in his pre game press conference “Besides this being a derby, they will be very motivated and focused. The derbies here are something that both teams can enjoy. There is respect. That isn’t always the case in other places.”

It’s shaping up to be a must watch game this weekend. Kick off is Sunday at 17:15
