Malaga central defender Bakary Koné will spend this season in the French top flight after completing a season-long loan deal to newly-promoted RC Strasbourg.
The Ligue 2 champions will have an option to buy the Burkinabé defender at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old was surplus to requirements at La Rosaleda and was excluded from the club’s preseason training camp in the Netherlands.
Koné, a two-time Coupe de France winner in his five-year spell with Olympique Lyonnais, joined Malaga last summer on free transfer.
Signed by Juande Ramos, Koné was expected to be the first choice pairing alongside Diego Llorente. Koné, however, only made seven appearances in all competitions and a combination of injury and the signing of Luis Hernández in January forced him down the pecking order.
This summer, Malaga have signed both Paul Baysse and Diego González to compete for spots in central defence, while both Miguel Torres and Federico Ricca can also fill in when needed.
Luis Muñoz also looks likely to remain an option as the club has yet to secure him a loan move away.
Malaga this week have reinforced their midfield with the signing of Esteban Rolón but will be hoping for at least one more signing before the close of the window this week.
Centre forward is a major priority with Borja Bastón and youngster Youssef En-Nesyri the only recognised options up top.
Inter Milan forward Gabriel Barbosa has been linked, but his non-EU status and inflated wages mean Malaga are set to turn to Bordeaux frontman Diego Rolán.
